What causes the sweat of container cargo

The moisture loss in the process of container transportation and logistics is caused by obvious changes in the temperature and humidity of the environment where the container is located. For example, the change of day and night temperature in the long-distance transportation of goods, and the difference in humidity in the logistics area.

The biggest cause of moisture damage to goods in transportation is due to temperature changes. At each specific temperature, the amount of water that can be contained in the air has a maximum value. If this value is exceeded, the water vapor will condense into dew or water droplets and attach to the surface of a colder object. Hot air contains more moisture than cold air. When the hot air becomes cold, the water vapor turns into water droplets.

The changing law of the water content in the air is: every time the temperature rises by 10°C, the water content in the air doubles. For example, if the air is at 20°C and RH50%, if the temperature drops by 10°C, the RH will reach 100%, and condensation will appear when it gets colder.

Condensation and container fog and rain:

The most obvious moisture problem occurs when the temperature outside the container drops. When the temperature drops, the container walls and the top of the container become colder than the air in the container, and condensation will appear on the surface. In severe cases, water droplets drip or flow down the wall of the box. This phenomenon is called container fog and rain.

Cargo sweat:

When water-containing goods or packaging materials experience a temperature increase, the water content will vaporize, and the generated water vapor will liquefy when it encounters colder surfaces such as outer packaging. This phenomenon is called cargo sweat.
