Anhydrous calcium chloride desiccant can effectively absorb water and react with Ammonia. It is widely used due to its low cost and strong drying ability. It also has features of fast drying speed regenerated, high dehydration temperature to 473K. It can dry substances like H2, O2, HCl, CO2, CO, N2, SO2 and so on but cannot be used to dry ammonia, alcohols, amines, acyl ketones, aldehydes, esters and other substances.
the chemical equation is CaCl2+nH2O=CaCl2·nH2O (n may be 8), CaCl2+8NH3=CaCl2·8NH3 (ammoniac chloride, this is a compounding process)
